What files can I import?

EPUB and plain .txt files. Most DRM-free ebooks — including public-domain books from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, and Calibre-managed libraries — are supported.

DRM-protected files from Kindle or Apple Books will not open. Strip DRM from books you legally own before importing, using a tool like Calibre's DeDRM plugin.

Why does the first chunk take a few seconds to start?

Cloud voices (Plus and Pro tiers) generate audio on demand — about 10–20 seconds for the first chunk, then pre-generates the rest in the background so playback is gapless. On-device voices (free tier) start almost instantly but sound less natural.

I cloned my voice. Where's my sample stored?

Your voice recording is uploaded to the TTS provider (DeepInfra) and tied to your anonymous subscriber ID. You can delete the cloned voice from the Voices tab in the app, which removes it from the provider's side too.

How do I cancel my subscription?

iOS: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Narratr → Cancel.

Android: Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Narratr → Cancel.

Subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google, not by us — we never see your payment details.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com within 90 days of purchase. Google Play refunds are similar — go to your Play order history.

If Apple or Google declines and you believe the refund is warranted, email me and I'll look into it.

The audio sounds robotic / the voice I want isn't available.

Free-tier voices run entirely on-device and sound noticeably more synthetic than the cloud voices. Plus (£5.99/mo or £53.99/yr) unlocks Chatterbox voices and Pro (£11.99/mo or £107.99/yr) unlocks the full cast plus voice cloning. Prices shown in your local currency on the paywall.

If a voice you used to use disappears, it usually means the upstream provider has removed or re-priced it. We try to keep the Voices tab up to date.

The app crashed / a word is mispronounced / I found a bug.

Send me an email with the details. For mispronunciations specifically, the in-app pronunciation override feature (tap a word while playback is paused) lets you fix it yourself instantly — no update required.

Delete my data / GDPR request.

Everything you create in the app — imported books, generated audio, custom voices, bookmarks — lives on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
